A private RICS valuation can give you a rough idea of whether you are paying too much, or indeed too little, for a property.

This is similar to the type of report that a lender would arrange if you were taking a mortgage out on the property.

However, as a type of property survey, it is very limited in scope and is only likely to uncover obvious, visible defects as part of a brief inspection.

The valuation figure given would be the surveyors opinion of the value of the property in current condition as at the date of the inspection.
